OPEN WIDE- Blog #2

        Countless ads advertise their product by using sexual innuendoes; this particular Burger King ad exemplifies the idea that “sex sells”. Instantly a viewer is attracted to the boldness of the young girls red lips, later to discover her alarmed expression. Further exploring the ad to find an absurdly long sandwich making its way to her scarlet lips. “IT’LL BLOW YOUR MIND AWAY” written in bold white letters beneath the young woman and sandwich blatantly associates the sandwich to a sexual act. The ad goes on to establish the sandwich as Burger Kings “SUPER SEVEN INCHER”, written in capital letters—printed in the top right hand corner next to their logo “it just tastes better”, this entire ad has an underline meaning of sex. This ad most likely was intended for a male audience, particularly a young male because of the message of the ad being so blunt—also more so directed for men because the underline meaning can be construed as the objectification of women. Whether or not this ad successfully appeals to the viewer depends solely on each individual, although it is quite absurd Burger King successfully imprints on every viewers mind—the BK Super Seven Incher is a sandwich that is not easily forgotten. Although the ad reeks of sex, Burger King’s intended promise in turn is not sex. Their promise is straightforward, a promise of a good sandwich.
